Port Guide: Chania

On our cruise around Greece and Italy we did an early as well as short port of call to Chania, Crete as we docked at 7am and left at midday.

Due to the shortness of the port of call we decided to get off the ship and go in to the centre as we got a bus from near the cruise terminal for €3.40 each return. Once we’d reached the centre we took a walk down to the Old Venetian Harbour and took a walk around as we saw the sun rise which was a beautiful view. Near the harbour there were some stores selling souvenirs and clothing which we took a walk around before going to the indoor market selling local meat, fish and produce as well as local souvenirs. The Old Venetian Harbour was built 1320-1356 by Venetians where you will also see a restored lighthouse as well as restaurants.

If you do happen to dock at Chania on your cruise and like we did only have a short amount of time in port I would still get off as it’s a nice walk around the harbour. Due to not being in port long there was not much that I learned about the area but it is somewhere I would visit again so that I could see more of the area.

Have you been to Chania before?
