Santorini is a tender port which we didn’t reach until mid afternoon. Most cruise companies will operate a ticketed tender service so that passengers are not all rushing at once to disembark the ship.
Once off the ship we chose to get a cable car up to Fira which costs €6 each way or you can alternatively ride a donkey to the top. If you don’t want to go to Fira there is an option to get a speed boat to Oia which you can get from by the bottom of the cable car station.
Once we got off the cable car we then took a walk around Fira taking a look in to some of the local shops as well as stopping for a drink in a bar overlooking the ocean. As you walk around you are able to see the White Orthodox Cathedral and Catholic Cathedral.
Santorini is known for having the best views of the sunset but people tend to go Oia for the sunset. We chose to get back on to the ship before sunset so that there wasn’t a long wait to get back onboard. We watched the sunset from the deck on the ship which proved why Santorini is so popular for it’s sunset.
