Packing For A City Break

Packing for a city break can often be a stressful task as we are likely to be trying to pack as light as possible for what is potentially a short trip. Going on a city break I will always pack using a small suitcase so that I’m able to take it on to the plane as my hand luggage as this will save me time once I get to my destination as it means I won’t need to wait at the luggage carousel.

There are some things that I always check before I start to pack for a city break. I like to do some research to see what kind of activities I’m likely to be doing. In the build up to my travel day I keep a check on the weather as this will determine what type of clothing I’m going to need for my trip.

When planning my outfits I try to keep it minimal by taking items that can be worn more than once such as trousers and tops that will go with more than one item of clothing. I will also limit the amount of footwear I take by traveling in  trainers and then only pack one set of footwear which is likely to be a comfortable pair of sandals. Comfortable footwear is important for a city break as you are likely to be doing a lot of walking. If I’m going somewhere that will require a coat I won’t pack this in the case as I will choose to wear it on the plane. If I’m going to require jumpers I will pack thin ones so that they don’t take up  too much in the case as well as packing some thermal long sleeve tops for under the jumpers. Once I’ve decided what clothes I’m going to be taking with me I will always use a packing cube to put the clothes in as this is another way to help save space in the case as well as a way to keep things compact.

When selecting what toiletries to pack you need to consider that they need to be 100ml or under when flying and also need to be stored in a clear toiletry bag for going through security. Some airports do not require liquids or electronics to be taken out the bag to go through security.  Throughout the year if I’m buying any full size toiletries I sometimes find offers which will include free travel size items so will keep these for any small trips that I take.

When it comes to packing electronics I like to keep this to a minimum, I won’t pack a hairdryer as there is likely to be a hairdryer in the hotel room but I will pack my straighteners which will be the only styling tool I take. I will take a multiport plug so that I then only need to take one adaptor with me as I will be able to use the one plug to charge any of items such as headphones, phone and power bank.

When it comes to  taking any accessories I will wear the same jewellery for the duration of the trip so I won’t pack any additional jewellery. For a bag I will either use a small bag as my second hand luggage or if I’m using my backpack I will pack one small bag in the case that will go with each outfit.

I will ensure that I leave some space in my luggage so that I’m able to bring back any souvenirs.

Do you have a specific way you like to pack when you are packing for a city break?
