In Saint Petersburg we spent a few hours walking around the Hermitage museum. Ordinally this is not the type of museum I would like to walk around but it was very interesting as well as mesmerising.

Hermitage is a museum of art and culture, which is the second largest art museum in the world. It was founded in 1764 when Catherine the great acquired an impressive collection of paintings. In the museum only a small part of the paintings are on permanent display.

Hermitage museum occupies a large complex of six historic buildings along palace embankment. The buildings include:
Winter Palace
Building of Menshikov Palace

Citizens of Russia and Belarus pay less than tourists. The first Thursday of every month when visiting you are able to gain free entry. Hermitage museum is closed on a Monday.
Hermitage museum is a federal state property.
Anyone who is visiting Saint Petersburg I would recommend a visit to Hermitage museum.
Is it somewhere you have visited before or planning to?
