When visiting a new city it is always useful to have some tips so that you aren’t making too many mistakes throughout the trip as well as making sure that the trip can be enjoyed to the maximum.
As Munich is a city which can be easily explored on foot I would recommend making sure that you are wearing comfortable footwear. There is nothing worse than visiting a new city where you are doing a lot of walking and wearing the wrong footwear that then lead to blisters. For my trip to Munich I wore trainers as I knew my feet would be comfortable for the amount of walking I would potentially be doing.

If your visit to Munich is over the weekend you will need to plan what you are doing on the Sunday carefully as a lot of shops do not open on a Sunday as they see Sundays as a rest day as well as a day to be spent with friends and family. If you are visiting over a public holiday the same will apply for opening hours as it does on a Sunday. Some attractions around the city of Munich will also have different opening hours to the rest of the week so its important to check opening hours of anything you are wanting to do on a Sunday or public holiday.
When travelling it is very common now not to take any cash as we will often choose to use a card for payments with some banks not charging fees such as Monzo. But if your travelling to Munich I would recommend that you do take a small amount of cash as there are some small stores and stalls that will only accept cash although there are more stores beginning to accept card payments. It is advised that you make sure you do have some small change for anything with a low price as they will often not carry a lot of change.
Cycling is a popular mode of transport in Munich so when walking on the pavements watch out for any cyclists. There are also cycle lanes so make sure that you are looking out for any cyclists coming in both directions, they will often ring their bells and if they do you need to get out the way quick.
If you are going to Munich for a few days or are currently planning your trip to Munich then make sure you do at least one day trip from the city. Munich is a good city to use as a base for exploring other places as well. Some of the days trips available from Munich include:
Neuschwanstein Castle
Salzburg
Rothenburg
Munich is a city where the weather can vary throughout the year so when you are packing for your trip make sure you are checking the weather. I went in June and I was lucky enough that on each day I was there I had full sunshine and it was hot.
If you are choosing to go in September or October but aren’t interested in Oktoberfest it is worth checking the dates for Oktoberfest to make sure your dates aren’t clashing. Munich during Oktoberfest is more expensive to visit and will also be a lot busier.

Do you have any other tips for Munich that I’ve not mentioned?
