Hotel Review: Courtyard By Marriott, Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city that is not short of places to stay, it can often be overwhelming trying to decide where to stay. There are different types of accommodation available in the city from apartments to hotels.

Towards the end of 2024 I visited Edinburgh where I stayed at Courtyard by Marriott, I found this hotel to be in a perfect location. It’s only a short walk from the train station as the walk takes approximately 10 mins, there is also a car park which is off site but is only a short walk from the hotel. The purpose of my visit to Edinburgh was to see a show at the playhouse theatre which was ideally located next door to the hotel. For those who choose to visit Edinburgh to see the tourist sites you will find they aren’t too far from this hotel as it’s only approximately 10 minutes walk to the main street of Princes St. If you are choosing the fly to Edinburgh this hotel is located 20 minutes away.

Entrance to the Courtyard by Marriott hotel is gained via the street as you walk up a couple of steps to the reception area of the hotel.  After you’ve checked in to the hotel for your stay and are walking  towards the lifts/ elevators to your room you will find on the left a bar where you are able to enjoy some drinks through the day and evening  as well as some food. On the right there is a small store set up where you will find items for sale such as snacks, drinks, souvenirs and some toiletries that you may have forgotten to pack.

There is a restaurant located within the hotel called 1802 Grill where you will find a small menu with offerings such as steak, burgers and salad. During my stay here I did dine at this restaurant where I enjoyed some fillet steak which was cooked perfectly, I did find the service to be slow during my visit but this was due to their being a large group booking within the restaurant at the same time. I would recommend booking a table if you wish to dine at 1802 Grill. If you are wanting breakfast during your stay you also visit 1802 Grill where there is a buffet style breakfast. Outside of the hotel at the front there is an outdoor seating area where you are able to enjoy drinks if you are wishing to have one outside.

The hotel offers free wifi to guests. Other in room facilities include hairdryer, nirvae botanicals toiletries, tea/ coffee making facilities along with a mini fridge.

I personally found the rooms to be spacious but there was limited space to hang clothing. If you are going to be staying at this hotel for more than 2 nights then you may struggle for hanging space depending on how much clothing you pack. There is a double bed which I found to be comfortable for the two nights that I stayed at the hotel. In the bathroom there is a large rainfall shower with a spacious sink area. Within the room you will find a TV with limited channels and you will also find as you are walking out of the bathroom a large full length mirror.

At the time of writing this post June 2025 the average room rate for this hotel is £251 per night.

Edinburgh is somewhere I’ve visited several times and each time I’ve stayed in a different hotel. This is a hotel that I would choose to stay at again when visiting Edinburgh as I found the hotel to be in a good location for transport and also found that the facilities within the hotel met the needs of what I would want.
