Dubai is a city that has become increasingly popular with tourists from around the world, like many cities there are some do’s and don’ts for visiting. Within this post I’m going to mention some of my top tips for anyone visiting Dubai.
Taxi’s
If you choose to get a taxi from your accommodation or any attraction that you are visiting there is a high chance that someone will try to offer you a ride in one of the luxury cars that are parked nearby, refuse this offer as this will cost at least double the price of a normal taxi. A normal taxi will be cream with a coloured roof such as red, green or yellow and the driver of these will have a blue shirt on.
Time of Year to Visit
Something that can be on a lot of peoples minds when visiting Dubai is when should they visit. This depends on how you can tolerate the heat as the summer months are often cheaper due to the extreme heat. I personally prefer to visit during February/ March as this is when the heat is bearable.
Safety
Dubai is one of the safest cities to visit due to how strict they are towards crimes. If you are to leave an item unattended for a period of time it will still be where you left it when you return. You don’t need to worry about any risks of pickpocketing.
Where to Stay
Once you’ve decided that you will be visiting Dubai it’s important to research which area is best for you. I’ve stayed at The Walk and on The Palm twice, I personally prefer staying on The Palm as this is quieter but it does mean you do have to travel a bit to get everywhere.
Alcohol
Dubai is not a dry country like some other countries in the Middle East but can only consumed in licensed areas. Be careful when drinking as to not get too drunk as this could result in a trip to jail. The legal drinking age in Dubai is 21.
Shopping
Malls are something that Dubai isn’t missing as you will find plenty of them with the two most popular being Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Mall. Most hotels offer a free shuttle to one of the two malls so its worth asking at the reception when you are checking in. When shopping it’s worth noting that some of the items that you are able to purchase at home will be cheaper at home this is due to the import fees that they have to pay.
Ramadan
If your visit coincides with Ramadan there is no eating or drinking allowed in public throughout the day due to . A lot of restaurants will still remain open and have an area for those who aren’t fasting to eat or drink.
Do you have any other tips that you give to anyone when they are visiting Dubai?
