Choosing Accommodation in Dubai

As a place which is bigger than some people realise choosing accommodation in Dubai can be really hard as there are different areas to stay in. You also need to consider what you are wanting to see or do whilst in Dubai so that you are able to ensure you pick a location which is suitable for you and your stay. Personally when choosing accommodation I like to choose somewhere that is central and will make it easy for me to access the different places I wish to visit. I have selected some of what I think are the best hotels to choose from in each area of Dubai.

Al Barsha

This is known as the functional neighbourhood of Dubai. An area which is predominately residential but is where you are able to find Mall of the Emirates.

Hotels to choose from in this area include:

Dunes Hotel Apartments: A 3* hotel which is part of a chain in Dubai. This accommodation is spacious as rooms include a lounge, bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a kitchen with cooking facilities. There are one 1 and 2 bedroom apartments available. A room is an average of £30 per night.

Flora Al Barsha: A 4* hotel located in the heart of the business and leisure district of Al Barsha and gives easy access to the Mall of the Emirates. A room is an average of £30 per night.

Grand Excelsior Hotel: A 4* hotel which is built to emulate a cruise ship featuring a rooftop pool and spa. Inside the hotel you are able to find a lobby featuring cool marble gold leaf designs, water features and glass elevators. There are six restaurants and bars inside including a nightclub on the ground floor. This hotel is located a few minutes walk from the Mall of the Emirates. A room is on average £29 per night.

Bur Dubai

Bur Dubai translates to Mainland Dubai and is a historic distract which is located on the western side of the Dubai Creek. As the oldest part of the city this is where you will be able to get the best experience of old Dubai.

Hotels in this area include:

The H Hotel: A 5* hotel with a spa, six restaurants as well as a rooftop cocktail bar. Within the hotel there are 236 rooms, a residential tower as well as an office tower. Located a short distance from the Burj Khalifa. A room is an average of £57 per night.

Conrad Dubai: A 5* hotel offering panoramic Arabian Gulf views. Located near the Burj Khalifa with a wine cellar as well as a Marco Pierre White restaurant. A room is an average of £86 per night.

Jumeirah Emirates Tower Hotel: A 5* hotel with private beach access, a spa as well as an outdoor pool. A room is an average of £103 per night.

Deira

If you are staying on a budget this is a good area to stay in. An area which is similar to Bur Dubai but a little bit more modern. You will find the largest traditional souk in Deira but you will also find the business district. If you like to stay in an area which is close to the airport then this is an ideal area. Deira is on the east bank of Dubai Creek which is where you will find dhows carrying imported goods as they sail back and forth across the water.

Hotels in this area include:

Marco Polo Hotel: A 5* hotel located near the airport and metro stations. Within the hotel you will be able to find restaurants as well as a nightclub. A room is an average of £24 per night.

Carlton Palace Hotel: A 5* hotel which features a rooftop pool as well as cocktail bar. A room is an average of £29 per night.

Golden Tulip Nihal Palace Hotel: A 4* hotel which is located in the centre of Deira with a rooftop pool as well as an Irish pub. This hotel in located near the Gold Souk. A room is an average of £23 per night.

Downtown

You may recognise the Downtown area as this is often seen on TV, this is also where a lot of people prefer to stay when visiting Dubai. Downtown is where you will be able to find the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall as well as fine dining restaurants. This is an area where most tourists will venture to while visiting Dubai as you are also able to see the fountains and visit the aquarium inside the mall. This is one of the most expensive areas to stay in Dubai. If you are wanting to be near the beach then this is not the area to stay in.

Hotels to choose from in this area include:

Palace Downtown: A 5* Arabian style hotel with a spa located near Burj Khalifa. Rooms within the hotel have a Middle Eastern theme and come with balconies offering views of The Dubai Fountains or The Old Town or Burj Lake.  A room is an average of £216 per night.

Manzil Downtown: A 4* hotel giving direct access to Souk Al Manzil as well as featuring a shisha lounge. Some rooms come with a view of the Burj Khalifa. A room is an average of £119 per night.

Vida Downtown: A 4* hotel located in the old town distract of downtown. This hotel has a pool with cabanas so that you are able to sunbathe comfortably. A room is on average £140 per night.

Marina & Jumeirah Beach Residence

A new neighbourhood of Dubai which is one of the most Westernised areas of Dubai. Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) refers to the beach and promenade as well as the marina which is behind including the canal and tallest skyscrapers. This is where I would recommend staying as you are able to go to the beach and there is plenty of restaurants to choose from. If you wish to go shopping there are not many shops nearby but the Mall of the Emirates is located 7km away or you can travel a further 23km to Dubai Mall & Burj Khalifa.

Hotels to choose from in this area include:

JA Oceanview: A 5* hotel which is located next to the beach. Rooms also include balconies where you are able to enjoy a sea view. When I visited Dubai earlier in the year this is where I stayed and would stay at this hotel again.

Amwaj Rotana: A 5* hotel offering views of the Arabian Gulf where rooms come with a balcony. This hotel is located near The Walk which is a promenade lined with shops and restaurants. A room is an average of £70 per night.

Ritz Carlton, Dubai: A 5* beachfront hotel with it’s own private beach and spa. This hotel boasts nine different restaurants and lounges. Guests are able to easily access The Walk. A room is on average £195 per night.

The Palm

The Palm is one of the most remarkable and recognised landmarks in Dubai. A palm shaped island which is attached to the mainland of Dubai with a length of several kilometres. If you are wanting to stay in an area which is luxurious then The Palm is ideal. If you do choose to stay on The Palm there is not a lot to do other than to visit the beach or stay within your hotel as it is quite far from everything else.

Hotels in this area include:

Atlantis, The Palm: A 5* hotel which boasts 23 different restaurants as well as the opportunity to dine underwater. Within the hotel you are able to find a water park, aquarium, surf wave machine as well as sea lions and dolphins. This is a famous landmark of Dubai which is a replica of the Atlantis in Bahamas and sits at the very edge of the island. A room is an average of £145 per night.

Anantara, The Palm: A 5* hotel with it’s own private beach as well as lagoon style swimming pool. This hotel features the only over water villas in UAE. A room is an average of £109 per night.

Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah: A 5*  beachfront resort where you will find cabanas along the private beach. The hotel has 244 suites, villas and penthouses. A rooms is an average of £247 per night.

What would be your choice for accommodation in Dubai?

  1. I’ll like to book any of the hotels in The Palm and I like the fact that hotels in other provinces aren’t too pricey. LOL! I didn’t know things could be affordable in Dubai. I’m saving this for when I travel there.
